RIP STEVE JOBS

Masalama Steve Jobs!
Your contribution to the world of technology will be immensely remembered.

STEVE JOBS
FEBRUARY 24, 1955-OCTOBER 5, 2011

"Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose," Mr. Jobs said in a commencement speech at Stanford University in June 2005, almost a year after he was diagnosed with cancer

Don’t spend another minute doing something or working for someone who doesn’t inspire you to higher levels of achievement

Steve Jobs

"you can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. you have to trust in something. gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever."

"sometimes life's gonna hit you in the head with a brick. don't lose faith."

"i am convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that i loved what i did. you've got to find what you love. and that is as true for work, as it is for your lovers."

"as with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it."

"remembering that i'll be dead soon is the most important tool i've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

chen's pool birthday party

A man's age is something impressive, it sums up his life: maturity reached slowly and against many obstacles, illness cured, griefs and despairs overcome, and unconscious risks taken; maturity formed through so many desires, hopes, regrets, forgotten things, love. A man's age represents a fine cargo of experiences and memories. ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Wartime Writings

This is a late birthday post for a friend of mine who have made us so happy, instead of us making her happy. We had our share of fun and laughters and it was one gastronomic feast. It was  an all girls pool party but our little yan-yan is the only thorn among the beautiful roses, who lighten our day by his smiles.

Exhausted but we all went home happy. This was a real breather from the four walls of our hostel. A great way to release stress and tensions and a time to drink a few pool water too!

     Happy birthday Chen!

happy meal

I have been enjoying a long days off and I am recently hooked to cooking sites, reading  food blogs and watching Hell's kitchen season 9 and Gourmet, a koreanovela set in the culinary world of Korea. I am so addicted to cooking shows, name it i have watched it. As far as i remember during my college days me and my cousin dado were so into the shows like Ina Garten's Barefoot Contessa, Wolfgang Puck (i love how he cooks and play inside the kitchen), Mario Batali ( I look forward to the stories behind his dishes, his love for Italy and Sicilian dishes) and Bobby Flay ( more on his interactive outdoor cooking), these were way before i got hooked into Iron Chef America.
Recent addiction is Master Chef Australia And Junior Master Chef Australia. I am so into JMCA, imagine these little kids cooking gourmet dishes and their ages only ranges from 7-12 years old. They could really cook and guess what, they even can do breathtakingly good garnishing on the plate which makes me so awed by their talent and skills.
It downed into me that if these kids can pull it through and can cook, I too can come out with palatable creations. So my pursuit of cooking started and I want to at least document pieces of my mini connoisseur.
These may not even be upscale cooking but creating these makes me so ever joyed and thrilled that I can also cook something. Invention test starts now!
Spare me for any misfits in my post.

Buono Appetito!

hotta hotta henna

I was given the opportunity to visit a typical Saudi abode and I  together with my  housemates had experienced  a superb hospitality, the Arab way. So this is how they treat visitors, from over flowing drinks, sweets and other stuffs we will have a free henna tattoo. OMG! i'm gonna have a henna tattoo! I was at first hesitant 'coz they say it will last for a couple of weeks. Just thinking of the time it is on my skin make me think twice and thrice if i will do it. But upon seeing how good the henna artist was,  and how intricate she does it, i was in!

this is my hand after the henna was done, it's still wet, and look at the design, isn't it cool and lovely?

see i can still manage to smile huh! i don't know for other henna procedures, but ours is something different
And i said hotta hotta henna! Honestly this is one of a kind stuff, first while the artist makes her way in creating a superb design you can feel the cold wiggles of henna touching your bare skin, and it was fun and cool. But the real deal is, as it gets to dry in your hands, it will produce a rather stingy and hot chilly sensation on your skin. Oh boy, believe me, it was one hot, i mean super hot experience. You would want to scratch your skin to ease the spicy feeling on it. I was even telling myself, "dada this is the first and last time you'll do this".

see my hands? pretty design isn't it?
showing off my newly painted hands
ethel's design was another thing to behold
krizel's hand just right after her session, she still manages to make a few laugh,
after that hotta, hotta henna too!
shella's design was rather huge and she chose to have her other fingers designed too!
this was my henna art
i need to wait a little longer for the henna to stick to my hands

one last picture before scrapping the residue
this is how it looks like after scrapping off the henna powder residue
the design is not that visible yet
they adviced us to rub oil to it to  make it more intact and stay long on the skin
it's a little bit light at the moment, but as days will pass it will darken
see! now the color changes, from a lighter shade now its brownish- orangy
krizel's hand  is changing it's color too
the day i went to work with my henna tattoo..saudi co-workers, patients and other personnel would utter "mashallah" as a way of praising my hand
Saudi females who saw my hand while dispensing  medicines would  usually hold my hand and say " mashallah".
It's overwhelming hearing  how they loved my hand and how they appreciate that we, non-Saudi  likes their art too
taken  a week after it was made, look how the color has changed right now.
as the shade gets darker, the more visually you notice the small details of the design
i just can't get enough of this beauty
i just love this art work on my hands
I enjoyed this experience despite the hotta hotta sojourn of it. Now you maybe asking me, am I ready for a next henna session? Well, i would love to try this again and i wanna do it just few days before I will go home to the Philippines for a vacation. I want to show to my friends and family how nice it is to sometimes experience and try other people's art and way of life. I say way of life, because henna is  part of saudi females, its part of their culture. A thing i'm most proud of that I have tried.

Henna tattoo the Saudi way was indeed something i'll never forget.
